This Privacy Policy explains how Complie ("Complie", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information.

Complie provides specialist building compliance consulting services, including Building Code of Australia (BCA) reports and related development approval (DA) and construction certificate (CC) documentation.

We value your privacy. This policy sets out our commitments to handling personal information responsibly and in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which we apply as a matter of good practice.

2. What personal information we collect

We collect personal information that you provide to us directly, including:
- Identity and contact details: first name, last name, email address and phone number.
- Professional details: your role (for example architect, developer,
 project manager, builder or certifier).
- Service enquiry details: the type of report or service you are
 interested in and any information you include in your enquiry.
- Project files: drawings, plans and supporting documents you upload to obtain a quote or for us to deliver our services. These files may contain personal information about third parties (for example names or addresses associated with a project or site).
- Marketing preferences: if you choose to subscribe to our updates, the email address you provide and your subscription status.

We also collect limited technical information automatically when you visit our website, including IP address, browser type, device information and pages visited, through our website hosting provider and any analytics or cookie technologies in use. See section 9 (Cookies) below.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health, racial or political information). Please do not include sensitive information in your enquiries or uploaded files unless it is necessary.

3. How we collect personal information

We collect personal information:
- Directly from you when you complete our quote or contact form, upload files, subscribe to updates, or correspond with us by email or phone.
- Automatically when you browse our website (technical and usage data).

If you provide us with personal information about another person (for example a colleague, client or site contact in an uploaded document), you confirm you are authorised to provide it and that the person is aware of this policy.

4. Why we collect, hold and use personal information

We use personal information to:
- Respond to your enquiries and prepare and provide quotes.
- Deliver our consulting services and produce the reports you engage us for.
- Communicate with you about your project, engagement and our services.
- Manage our business records, accounts and administration.
- Send you updates and marketing communications, but only if you have subscribed.
- Maintain the security and proper functioning of our website.
- Comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

We will only use your personal information for the purposes for which it was collected, for a directly related purpose you would reasonably expect, or where you have consented, or as otherwise permitted by law.

5. Marketing Communications

We will only send you marketing or update emails if you have opted in by subscribing. We do not add you to our mailing list simply because you submitted a quote or enquiry.

Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at hi@complie.com.au to opt out at any time. We will action opt-out requests promptly.

6. Disclosure of personal information

We do not sell your personal information.We do not disclose the project files you upload to external third parties to deliver our services; these are handled internally by Complie.

We may disclose personal information to:
- Our service providers who help us operate our business (see section 7), who are only permitted to use the information to provide services to us.
- Professional advisers (such as our accountants or lawyers) where reasonably necessary.
- Government agencies, regulators or other parties where required or authorised by law.
- A successor entity in the event of a business sale or restructure, subject to this policy.

7. Service providers and overseas disclosure

We use trusted third-party providers to operate our business. These currently include:
- Webflow - website hosting and form handling (United States).
- Microsoft Office - email and document management (data may be stored in Australia and other countries in which Microsoft operates).
- Uploadcare - secure handling and storage of files you upload (servers located outside Australia, including the United States and/or European Union).

Because some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, your personal information (including uploaded files) may be stored or processed overseas. We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers that maintain appropriate security and data protection standards. By providing your information and uploading files, you acknowledge this overseas storage and handling.

8. Security and data retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include using reputable providers, access controls and secure transmission of uploaded files.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, to provide our services, to meet our legal, accounting and record-keeping obligations, and to resolve disputes. When personal information is no longer needed, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

9. Cookies and website analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to help the site function, remember your preferences and understand how the site is used. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, although some features of the site may not work properly if you do.

10. Access and correction

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete.
